A Rube Goldberg machine is a device that’s over-engineered even though it’s only meant to do a simple task. Rube Goldberg machines make use of common household items, and you don’t have to be an engineer to make them (the power of your imagination is really what counts here). Also, although the Rube Goldberg machines you see on TV (and even in our activity ideas video) are really, really complicated, you don’t necessarily have to make them that way. For this activity, you only have to make a “simple” Rube Goldberg machine. Of course, if you’re really up to the challenge, try to make a “complex” Rube Goldberg machine.
